Why this matters
You cannot enforce zero trust on a device you do not know exists
The most common zero trust gap is not policy configuration. It is asset blindness. Organizations deploy ZTNA, enforce MFA, and invest in endpoint detection, but leave the networks remote employees connect from entirely unmonitored.
In 2022, that gap cost LastPass an estimated $53 million. An unpatched personal device running CVE-2020-5741 was the initial foothold. The device was never in any ZTNA policy, any MDM enrollment, or any vulnerability scanner's scope. It did not need to be. It just needed to be on the same network as someone with access.
